BOGUSŁAW BUSZEWSKI Chair of Environmental Chemistry and Bioanalytics Faculty of Chemistry Nicolaus Copernicus University 7 Gagarin St Torun, Poland Phone (4856) , fax (4856) bbusz@chem.umk.pl He graduated at the Faculty of Mathematics-Physics-Chemistry of the Maria Curie Sklodowska University in Lublin. In 1986 he has received PhD degree at the Faculty of Chemical Technology, Slovak Technical University in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia. In 1992 he has reached the Doctor of Sciences (habilitation) degree. In 1994 he has received Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń professor position and in 1999 received the title of professor of chemistry. After MSc graduation he became an assistant in the Department of Physical Chemistry, M. Curie Skłodowska University in Lublin. Then he worked in the Department of Chemical Physics and Physic Chemical Separation Methods until From 1994 he began to organize his research group at the Faculty of Chemistry, Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń and became the Head of the Department of Environmental Chemistry & Ecoanalytics, later on transformed into Chair of Environmental Chemistry & Bioanalytics. Until now he takes over this function. From 2010 He is also a head of Center For Education & Research in Separation Methods & Bioanalytics BioSep. He has been Humboldt Fellow at Tübingen University (Germany) and visiting professor at several universities in the USA, Japan, China, UK, South Africa, Austria, the Netherlands, Taiwan and in many others European countries as well. He served as a member of the Committee of Analytical Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences and from 2015 to 2019 He is a chairman of it. He serves also as the member of the editorial boards of 26 national and international journals and has authored or coauthored 15 books, numerous patents (most of them has been already implemented), lectures and more than 460 scientific papers (h=40). He is one of the most citied chemist in Poland (over 7000 citations). He was awarded by numerous national and international organizations (including Doctor Honoris Causa) and supervised 32 PhD. Prof. Buszewski is also the chairman of the Central European Group for Separation Sciences (CEGSS), the president of Polish Chemical Society ( ), the president of the Societas Humboldtiana Polonorum, member of steering committee of Division of Environmental Chemistry of the European Association for Chemical and Molecular Sciences (EuCheMS), member of Austrian Academy of Sciences. He was a president of European Society for Separation Science (EuSSS) ( ). In October 2007 was awarded by the Foundation for Polish Science (FNP) of prestige award Master (Mistrz) and in 2009 was awarded of the Polish Prime Minister award. He received also the award of the Ministry of Science & High Education in 2013 and received the title Doctor honoris causa of the University of SS Cyril and Methodius in Trnava. In 2015 He was awarded of the Knight s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta. Since 2015 he is a Chairman of Committee of Analytical Chemistry of Polish Academy of Sciences. 15

This saved DuPont approximately $12 million per year At Varian Inc., He received several awards as exemplary employee for outstanding customer service and ion-trap MSD applications development At NASA being a principal investigator for Mars Exploration project, received several awards for Recycling of Water in Space project and several safety awards. Since He has shepherded several ASTM and USEPA methods, during he was instrumental collaborator with USEPA for method for Analysis of Hexavalent Chromium in Drinking Water Most recently in 2015, Dr. Gandhi received Award of Merit from ASTM International. Established in 1949 by the ASTM International Board of Directors, the Award of Merit is the highest society award granted to an individual member for distinguished service and outstanding participation in ASTM International committee activities. In his spare time, he is also affiliated with University of Houston Clearlake campus as adjunct faculty to teach Analytical Chemistry in Environmental Science program 16

From 1991, she has supervised the research group called FARMARTEM, whose aim is the development of new analytical methodologies applied to metabolomic studies, pharmaceutical, environmental and industrial fields, and inks dating. For this purpose chromatographic and electrphoretic techniques coupled to different detectors including mass spectrometry have been used together with several sample treatment procedures She has participated in many I+D funded projects in public calls and in I+D contracts with chemical and pharmaceutical companies and in projects to acquire new equipment for research. Her scientific contributions such as papers in international journals and communications in international congresses are numerous. She has also been the supervisor of an important number of doctoral theses and M.Sc. theses. DYBCZYŃSKI Institute of Nuclear Chemistry and Technology Warsaw, Poland Rajmund Dybczyński was born in Warsaw, Poland, in In 1955 he was graduated from Warsaw University with the degree of M.Sc. in chemistry, and started his professional work on at the Institute of General Chemistry, Warsaw. In 1957 he joined the Institute of Nuclear Research, Warsaw, from where he obtained his Ph.D. (1963) and D.Sc. (1971) degrees. In 1987, the President of Poland conferred him the scientific title of Professor in Chemistry. Since 1965 Dr Dybczyński has been the Head of Laboratory for Radiometric Methods of Analysis, and since 1995 till 2008 the Head of Department of Analytical Chemistry at the Institute of Nuclear Chemistry and Technology (formerly the part of the Institute of Nuclear Research) in Warsaw. He spent several months as a visiting scientist at the Institute of Geochemistry and Analytical Chemistry, Moscow ( ) and the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn, N.Y., USA ( ). In the years he worked for the IAEA in Vienna, being responsible for Analytical Quality Control Services, and later on participated in several Advisory Group or Consultant s Meetings organized by the IAEA. One of the main fields of scientific interest of Prof. Dybczyński is the research on the neutron activation analysis (NAA), in particular on new separation methods (based on ion exchange and extraction chromatography) for the development of radiochemical separation schemes to be applied in NAA. Prof. Dybczyński has been interested in QA/QC in chemical analysis and involved in work on preparation and certification of CRMs for inorganic trace analysis. Professor Dybczyński is the author and co-author of over 200 papers published in learned journals, 5 monographs, some review articles, expert s reports, dictionaries of analytical chemistry and chromatography etc. He was the regional editor of two international journals: Journal of Radioanalytical and Nuclear Chemistry and Geostandards Newsletter, and of a Polish journal Chemia Analityczna/Chemical Analysis; now he is the member (Distinguished Reviewer) of Editorial Advisory Board of Journal of Radioanalytical and Nuclear Chemistry. 5. In 2001, the Polish Chemical Society awarded him with the Wiktor Kemula Medal for outstanding scientific achievements. In 2009 the Committee for Analytical Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences granted Professor Dybczyński the Jerzy Fijałkowski award for achievements in production and certification of certified reference materials and popularization of quality assurance. 29 PROF. WOLFGANG FRENZEL Technical University of Berlin, Germany Wolfgang Frenzel has studied chemistry in Freiburg und Berlin (both in Germany). His Diploma and Ph.D. theses were done in the field of Analytical Chemistry with emphasis on electrochemistry and flow-through analysis. After a post-doctoral period at the Hahn-Meitner Institute in Berlin (where he dealt with trace element speciation in food and biomedical research) he became leader of the analytical research group at the Department of Environmental Engineering. Since 1986 he is permanently employed at TU Berlin as a research scientist. His activities at the TU Berlin encompass also teaching in Analytical Chemistry, Air Pollution Control and Atmospheric Research. Over the last 25 years he has supervised altogether about 80 PhD, Diploma, Master and Bachelor theses. He is collaborating with scientists in several countries worldwide and since 2015 a deputy teacher at the German University in Bangladesh. Scientifically his interests are devoted to the development and optimization of analytical methods for trace determination of environmentally relevant parameters in water, soil, air, and biota. A particular focus of his work is connected with the integration of sample preparation into analytical methods. Wolfgang Frenzel has published about 100 papers in peer reviewed journals and has written several book chapters. He is, among other positions, the managing editor of the analytical journal Microchimica Acta and the organizer and chairman of a biannual international conference on ion analysis (ICIA). 29

HUMBERTO GÓMEZ RUIZ National Autonomous University of Mexico, Mexico Humberto Gómez Ruiz is full time Professor in the Analytical Chemistry Department of the Chemistry School (Facultad de Química) of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). Professor Gomez is responsible for the courses on Chemical Equilibrium and Analytical Method Development in undergraduate courses and the courses of Mass Spectrometry and Sample Preparation Techniques for graduate students. Professor Gomez has worked in fundamental areas of Analytical Chemistry as Mass Spectrometry and Separation Sciences. He is author or co-author of more than 60 scientific papers and has presented more than 150 papers in national and international meetings. Professor Gomez has collaborated with several research groups in Mexico and Latin America. He is now responsible of two other research groups one at the Queretaro University in México where several new analytical procedures are being developed for the analysis of contaminated sites; and another research group at the San Luis Potosí University also in México for the development of methods for the analysis of bio-markers of human exposure to contaminated sites. Professor Gomez is an international consulter for the World Bank on water quality control. He is also consulter for the World Meteorological Organization, from UN for specific programs for the modernization and the efficient management of water sources in México. He has worked also for the National Institute of Ecology on the development of Official Guides for the analysis of different pollutants (a total of 52 guides). He is now member of the Scientific Committee for the Health Ministry on Chemical Risk Assessment. For the past 7 years he was director of the USAII (unit for specialized analytical services for research and industry) under his direction the laboratory got accreditation ISO as a research laboratory for 13 different techniques. Professor Gómez is member of the permanent scientific committee of COLACRO (Latin-American Congress on Chromatography). He is also member of the scientific committee of the AMQA (Mexican Association of Analytic Chemists) he was also the founder of the AMQA. Actual interests of professor Gomez is the analysis of human bio-markers of exposure using GC-MS, HPLC-MS, HPLC-MS-MS. The analysis of food aroma also by GC-MS and HPLC_MS. The development of bio-sensors on Flow Injection Analysis (FIA) for the determination of several pollutants in water and also for the evaluation of quality in wines and tequila. For 9 years he has been responsible for the water quality assessment of the Lacantun river in the Montes Azules Preserve in the state of Chiapas in the Lacandon jungle south of Mexico.
