Tuesday, February 2 (Feast of the Presentation) 7:00 PM Mass Special presentation of the purposes of Rosary Confraternities and the importance of promoting Rosary Devotions. After the Mass there will be refreshments in the Parish Center, St. John Paul II Room. At that time those interested can register and an organizational meeting will be held. All interested women are cordially invited! Girl Scout Cookie Time! Our Girl Scouts will once again be taking orders for their fabulous cookies. Representatives will be at the church side entrance next weekend to take your orders. Cookies will be delivered in March. Did You Know?? There is Eucharistic Adoration every Wednesday in St. Michael s Church. It is also the day for the Miraculous Medal Novena. The Novena prayers are recited at the conclusion of the 8:00 AM Mass; at 12:00 Noon with Benediction; and at 7:00 PM with Benediction. Come spend some time with the Lord! The Archdiocese is preparing the annual tradition of honoring those couples in our Archdiocese who will be celebrating 5, 25, and 50 years of Christian marriage in the year The Masses will be at Sacred Heart Cathedral with Archbishop John Joseph Myers presiding. Donazione: $ 5,00 THE GREAT HYMN TO LOVE It is doubtful that Saint Paul, when he sat down to write what we now know as the thirteenth chapter of First Corinthians, knew that he was penning what was to become one of the keystones of Christian ethics and the Reading of Choice for almost all weddings in our life time! In this brief passage, he set down ideals about love that have held fast through the centuries. Sometimes we may think that because these are ideals to which we aspire, we are excused from them in our daily living. But what Paul was writing was a letter to his friends, providing them with some sound advice about what it meant and still means to live in love, day by day, as a follower of Christ. We find in his words to his friends a broadening of the great commands of Jesus to love God and neighbor. Today we hear what this love must look like in our own actions, and how it ought to guide our relationships with others. Love Bears all things Believes all things Hopes all things. Endures all things.

To jest Wasz kościół, w którym chrzcicie Wasze dzieci, zawieracie sakrament małżeństwa, żegnacie Waszych zmarłych, przyjmujecie inne sakramenty. My, księża, jesteśmy tu tylko czasowo, Wy zostajecie na dłużej. To w dużej mierze od Was zależy, czy ta parafia będzie duchowo oraz fizycznie żywa czy też martwa. Wiemy jak Wam trudno wyjść z ławki, przełamać tremę, narazić się na plotkarskie głosy znajomych. Ale służba Bogu to zaszczyt oraz przywilej a nie jakaś forma pańszczyzny czy smutnego obowiązku. Oba te święta były głęboko zakorzenione w tradycji Starego Testamentu. Na pamiątkę ocalenia pierworodnych synów Izraela podczas niewoli egipskiej każdy pierworodny syn u Żydów był uważany za własność Boga. Dlatego czterdziestego dnia po jego urodzeniu należało zanieść syna do świątyni w Jerozolimie, złożyć go w ręce kapłana, a następnie wykupić za symboliczną opłatą 5 syklów. Równocześnie z obrzędem ofiarowania i wykupu pierworodnego syna łączyła się ceremonia oczyszczenia matki dziecka. Z tej okazji matka była zobowiązana złożyć ofiarę z baranka, a jeśli jej na to nie pozwalało zbyt wielkie ubóstwo - przynajmniej ofiarę z dwóch synogarlic lub gołębi. Święto Ofiarowania Pańskiego przypada czterdziestego dnia po Bożym Narodzeniu. Święto Ofiarowania Pana Jezusa należy do najdawniejszych, gdyż było obchodzone w Jerozolimie już w IV w. Tradycyjnie dzisiejszy dzień nazywa się dniem Matki Bożej Gromnicznej. W ten sposób uwypukla się fakt przyniesienia przez Maryję małego Jezusa do świątyni. W czasie Ofiarowania starzec Symeon wziął na ręce swoje Pana Jezusa i wypowiedział prorocze słowa: "Światłość na oświecenie pogan i na chwałę Izraela". Od X w. upowszechnił się obrzęd poświęcania świec, których płomień symbolizuje Jezusa - Światłość świata, Mesjasza, który uciszał burze, był, jest i na zawsze pozostanie Panem wszystkich praw natury. W Polsce, święto Ofiarowania Pana Jezusa ma nadal charakter wybitnie maryjny. Widzimy w Maryi Tę, która sprowadziła na ziemię niebiańskie Światło i która nas tym Światłem broni i osłania od wszelkiego zła. W czasie burzy zapalano poświęconą gromnicę i stawiano w oknach, by prosić Maryję o ochronę. Gromnicę wręczano również konającym, aby ochronić ich przed napaścią złych duchów. Ze świętem Matki Bożej Gromnicznej kończy się w Polsce okres śpiewania kolęd, trzymania żłóbków i choinek - kończy się tradycyjny (a nie liturgiczny - ten skończył się świętem Chrztu Pańskiego) okres Bożego Narodzenia. Msze Święte w dniu dzisiejszym będą odprawiane: 7:00 AM, 7:00 PM - po angielsku, 8:00 AM - po polsku.
