Fun Activities Service to Others Trips and Outdoor Fun Make New Friends For more information contact Christine Peters at Special Prayers In our prayers this week, let us especially remember all those who endured the tragedy of September 11, the survivors and those who perished at the World Trade Center, New York City; the Pentagon in Arlington County, Virginia, and the fields near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. In particular, please remember Kenneth Tarantino who departed this life at the World Trade Center on that day. Kenneth was the son of one of our parishioners, Theresa Tarantino. May all who suffered that day find peace! St. John Paul II Seniors A new year begins for the Seniors as they hold their first meeting this season on Tuesday, September 13th, at 12:00 Noon. New members are welcome! The meeting will be held in the St. John Paul II Room in the Parish Center. If interested, please call Marie at or Florence at Installation of Msgr. Ron Msgr. Ron Marczewski will be installed as the Pastor of St. Anne s Parish, 325 Second Ave., Garwood, NJ, on Sunday, September 25th, at the 10:00 AM Mass. Most Rev. Manuel A. Cruz, Auxiliary Bishop of Newark, will preside. Religious Education Classes The first day of classes for our Religious Education Program will be on Sunday, September 18, Classes begin at 9:15 am until 10:30 am in the school building. This schedule allows our students to attend the English Mass at 8:15 am or the Polish Mass at 10:45 am. Confirmation Program classes for will be held every other Wednesday between 7:00-8:30 PM. The first class is October 5th with a Class and Parents meeting.

4 What shall we speak of today on an anniversary of which orators and song writers have created such resounding speeches and lyrics poems and prayers? Shall I speak to you about the 3,000 innocent men, women and children from 90 countries who lost their lives at the hands of 20 terrorists? Shall I speak to you about a mastermind who hijacked a sacred ancient faith and made it into an instrument of mass destruction? Who like masterminds before him played on the alienation of young people of his culture to create killing machines? Or shall we remember the young girl whose plane was driven into the Pentagon? Or the innocent children in Afghanistan and Iraq who have also been the collateral damage as the result of wars and sectarian violence birthed on that fateful day 10 years ago? Shall we recall the school children near ground zero being rushed to safety or the millions of other American school children who lost so much of their childhood and security that day? (I think I am looking at many this evening.) Is this the appropriate time to remember Father Mychal Judge, a Franciscan friar of Father Jim s community and chaplain to New York firefighters who lost his life caring for one of the fallen that day; or, is this the time to speak about the bravery, courage, faith, exhaustion of New York clergy and mental health professionals from around the country who cared for the living in the days that followed? Do we forget the firefighters, the women and men of the police forces, the construction workers, the doctors, the nurses, the EMTs who rushed to the scene that day in a Pennsylvania field, the Pentagon in Virginia or to a ground zero in New York City and stayed in those places for days looking for the living, finding the dead, and answering the cell pho- refusing to give up hope? Shall I forget the four men who picked up a young woman named Clare who was eight months pregnant and how they carried her down seven flights in the towers and didn t put her down until they were near a bridge leading out of Manhattan? Shall we recall the immigrants both in this country legally and illegally who worked in the restaurants of the trade center, who cleaned the bathrooms and corridors and offices? Shall we not pray for their children who sometimes are looked upon as, the other the other who is different the other who speaks a different language the other who dresses differently shall we not pray for them and those who look upon them with fear and disdain? Yes, on yearly anniversaries we shall not forget. We shall not forget. And, yet, my dear brothers and sisters, in our daily living we can forget. In our uncharitable treatment of others we can forget. In our lack of forgiveness and by the violence we inflict by gossip, by anger, and by force towards others who are weaker we can forget. When we are selfish and petty; when we fear the other the one who is different than me we forget. When we despair or give up hope we forget. When we do not search for Christ in the ashes of our heartaches, our disappointments, our failures, our doubts - we forget. When we fail to honor and worship God who is the source of all life and who draws us into the mystery of His love for us by the life death and resurrection of his beloved, Son, Jesus Christ we forget. We must remember the men and women who have gone before us and their example of heroism, sacrifice and faith so that we may become the men and women of new generation of faith. We remember not for remembrances sake but as builders of a new day, a new creation, a new edifice of worship an edifice not of mortar and brick, not of steel and concrete but a living structure of the human heart open to forgiveness, grateful for freedom, filled with hope in the Christ who through us continues the work of redemption. And, we know in the marrow of our bones that no man, no group, no government, no ideology, no attack by terrorists can ever rob us of our freedom to believe in Christ, to hope in Christ, to forgive in Christ, to live in Christ. NO my friends we shall not forget, we shall always remember and we shall build a future of hope in the power and the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

RUCH RODZIN NAZARETAŃSKICH Jest to międzynarodowy katolicki ruch apostolstwa rodzin, którego celem jest uświęcenie członków poprzez pogłębienie życia Ewangelią w oparciu o wspólnotę życia z Chrystusem w codzienności, naśladując Maryję. Jeżeli pragniesz włączyć się w to dzieło, chcesz pogłębić swoje życie duchowe i wiarę zapraszamy na spotkania w każdy poniedziałek o 6:00 PM w górnej salce w centrum parafialnym 15 września - wspomnienie NMP Bolesnej Jest rzeczą niezaprzeczalną, że Maryja wiele wycierpiała jako Matka Zbawiciela. Nie wiemy, czy dokładnie wiedziała, co czeka Jej Syna. Niektórzy pisarze kościelni uważają to za rzecz oczywistą. Ich zdaniem, skoro Maryja została obdarzona szczególniejszym światłem Ducha Świętego odnośnie do rozumienia ksiąg świętych, gdzie w wielu miejscach i nieraz bardzo szczegółowo jest zapowiedziana męka i śmierć Zbawiciela świata, to również wiedziała o przyszłych cierpieniach Syna. Inni pisarze, powołując się na miejsca, gdzie kilka razy jest podkreślone, że Maryja nie rozumiała wszystkiego, co się działo, są przekonani, że Maryja nie była wtajemniczona we wszystkie szczegóły życia i śmierci Jej Syna. Maryja nie była tylko biernym świadkiem cierpień Pana Jezusa, ale miała w nich najpełniejszy udział. Jest nie do pomyślenia nawet na płaszczyźnie samej natury, aby matka nie doznawała cierpień na widok umierającego syna. Maryja cierpiała jak nikt na ziemi z ludzi. 14 września Święto Podwyższenia Krzyża Świętego. Kościół w Krzyżu Jezusa widział zawsze ołtarz, na którym Syn Boży dokonał zbawienia świata. Dlatego każda jego cząstka, tak obficie zroszona Jego Najświętszą Krwią, doznawała zawsze szczególnej czci. Nie chodzi w tym wypadku o autentyczność poszczególnych relikwii, ale o fakt, że przypominają one Krzyż Chrystusa i wielkie dzieło, jakie się na nim dokonało dla dobra rodzaju ludzkiego. Kiedy w roku 70 Jerozolima została zdobyta i zburzona przez Rzymian, rozpoczęły się wielkie prześladowania religii Chrystusa, trwające prawie 300 lat. Dopiero po ustaniu tych prześladowań matka cesarza rzymskiego Konstantyna, św. Helena, kazała szukać Krzyża, na którym umarł Pan Jezus. Po długich poszukiwaniach Krzyż odnaleziono. Co do daty tego wydarzenia historycy nie są zgodni; najczęściej podaje się rok 320, 326 lub 330, natomiast jako dzień wszystkie źródła podają 13 albo 14 września. W związku z tym wydarzeniem zbudowano w Jerozolimie na Golgocie dwie bazyliki: Męczenników (Martyrium) i Zmartwychwstania (Anastasis). Bazylika Męczenników nazywana była także Bazyliką Krzyża. 13 września 335 r. odbyło się uroczyste poświęcenie i przekazanie miejscowemu biskupowi obydwu bazylik. Największą część drzewa Krzyża Świętego posiada obecnie kościół św. Guduli w Brukseli. Bazylika św. Piotra w Rzymie przechowuje część relikwii, którą cesarze bizantyjscy nosili na piersi w czasie największych uroczystości. Największą część Krzyża świętego w Polsce posiadał kościół dominikanów w Lublinie. Dzisiejsze święto przypomina nam wielkie znaczenie krzyża jako symbolu chrześcijaństwa i uświadamia, że nie możemy go traktować jedynie jako elementu dekoracji naszego mieszkania, miejsca pracy czy jednego z wielu elementów naszego codziennego stroju.
