Jadwigi. Chciałbym podzielić się z wami kilkoma informacjami na temat prac prowadzonych w chwili obecnej w kościele i w innych budynkach. Od 16 stycznia prowadzimy prace remontowe w kościele w drugiej zakrystii czyli po lewej stronie ołtarza. Do chwili obecnej był to częściowo magazyn na wszystko co jest związane z funkcjonowaniem ołtarza: rzeczy liturgiczne, obrusy ołtarzowe, świece i elementy wystroju Prezbyterium. Po zakończonych pracach remontowych będzie to pokój dla rodziców z małymi dziećmi. Będą zamówione nowe meble dla dzieci i szafki na rzeczy liturgiczne. Prace pokazały, że musimy wymienić wszystkie trzy okna i drzwi wejściowe. W naszym kościele mamy Msze Św. do godziny 9:30 a później różaniec i ewentualnie jeszcze pogrzeb. Z tego powodu prace w kościele możemy wykonywać dopiero po godzinie 10:00am a nawet po 11:30am. Godziny poranne wykorzystujemy na prace na Plebani. Tutaj rozpoczęliśmy remont pokoju konferencyjnego. Więcej informacji za tydzień. Wasz Ksiądz Proboszcz Piotr, FROM THE PASTOR S DESK Dear Parishioners and Friends of St. Hedwig s Church. I would like to share with you some information about the work currently being done in the church and other buildings. From January 16, we are carrying out renovations in the church - in the second sacristy, that is, on the left side of the altar. Until now, it has been partially a warehouse for everything related to the functioning of the altar: liturgical items, altar tablecloths, candles and decor elements of the Sanctuary. After completed renovation works it will be a room for parents with small children. New furniture for children and cabinets for liturgical items will be ordered. The works indicated also that all three windows and entrance doors need to be replaced. In our church we have Masses until 9:30 am and then a rosary and often also a funeral service. For this reason, work in the church can be performed only after 10:00 am or even after 11:30 am. We use morning hours for works at the rectory. TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION This is the year of St. Paul, and so one of the most visited churches of Rome is also one of the most beautiful: the Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls. Like so many other churches, it was founded by the masterbuilder (or financier) Emperor Constantine about the year 315. Paul was martyred outside the walls of the City of Rome at a place called Tre Fontaine, probably on June 29, in the year 65, perhaps the first anniversary of St. Peter s crucifixion. Christians buried him in a quiet place about two miles away, and visited to pray. Constantine was running low on bricks, apparently, because the first church was tiny. In 386 it was demolished and today s basilica begun. This vast and towering space looks much the same today as it did in the fourth century. The centuries have not been kind to ancient Rome, but until the early 1800s St. Paul Outside the Walls survived beautifully, perhaps because it has been assigned for nearly a thousand years to Benedictine monks. It was therefore a vibrant place of daily prayer even through the centuries when Rome was a poor and nearly abandoned city. In 1823 a great fire resulted from a botched repair job to lead on the roof, and St. Paul s was destroyed. It is said that the whole world contributed to its restoration. Even the Russian czar and the viceroy of Egypt gave alabaster, malachite, and lapis lazuli for the pillars and the tabernacle. Several of the precious mosaics were able to be restored, bringing the ancient basilica back to life. One of the great treasures of the basilica is a set of prison chains, said to have been worn by the Apostle in the last days before his martyrdom. Unlike other Roman churches, St. Paul s stands in a garden-like suburban neighborhood, surrounded by stately palm trees, gardens, and parks. Rev. James Field, Copyright J. S. Paluch Co. St. Hedwig s Faith Formation Program The goal of participation in this program is to prepare oneself, as practicing Catholics, to receive the sacraments. Being Catholic is a lifelong endeavor and involves much more than receiving a select number of sacraments. It is a process that continues through one s life and ideally should reflect in one s daily life. Please come and join us Our class program is held on Thursday: Grades 1-5 from 5:00pm to 6:00pm Grades 6-8 from 6:15pm to 7:20pm The Sixth Graders The Sixth Graders have had the opportunity to read about each of the Ten Commandments in depth and how they relate to their everyday experiences. We have also focused on the Liturgical Year. We spent time learning about the Holy Days of Obligation. We ve also taken the time to learn about Saints whose feast days came up during the week we were meeting. During Advent, which is a penitential season they were assigned a special project. They became Secret Angels and focused on random acts of kindness for someone they might not normally be nice to. They kept logs and had the chance to talk about their experience of being a Secret Angel during class. Doing this assignment was a way to prepare their hearts for the birth of Jesus, Our Savior. One of our lessons earlier in the school year included the Precepts of the Church. We ll again talk about the Fourth precept during Lent. This precept asks us to observe the days of fasting and abstinence established by the Church. During the Liturgical season of Lent we will read about Jesus and the Apostles at The Last Supper, His Death and Resurrection. The students learn that it was at the Last Supper that The Eucharist was instituted. We then get to study in detail all of the parts of the Mass.
