SCHOOL NEWS... My name is Kaitlin Haderspeck, and this is my first year teaching at St. Francis Borgia. However, last year I was a part of the St. Francis Borgia community as a student teacher. I am very excited to be welcomed back into this wonderful school as the fourth-grade teacher. I recently graduated from Dominican University with a degree in Natural Science and Elementary Education. When I am not in school, I really love spending time with my friends and family. Like most young people, St. Francis Borgia s fourth-grade students are fascinated by the many uses of technology. While students often use technology at home to stay connected with friends or play games, during school hours the students of St. Francis Borgia are given the opportunity to learn about the educational uses of technology and methods for making homework and studying more efficient and fun! Peeking into the fourth grade classroom, you can see technology is integrated into various ways. You may find students completing research on computers or ipads. Students also use the ipad s fun learning tool Osmo to play games that help practice Language Arts and Math skills. We also love to use the apps Plickers and Kahoot. These apps are new, fun ways to study quiz questions. We also use the ipad app Adobe Spark to make videos. Walking down the hall by the fourth-grade room, you ll find QR codes you can scan to see some amazing book trailers for Tales of A Fourth-Grade Nothing, the fourth grade summer reading book. We extend our thanks and congratulations to our parishioner, Mrs. Linda Evangelista, who received the Christifideles Award from Archbishop Blasé Cupich and Bishop John Manz in the Holy Name Cathedral for her outstanding service to our parish. The Christifideles Award is given to Catholic laypeople who have, by participating in parish life, demonstrated the personal and ministerial renewal called for by the papal exhortation Christifideles Laici, calling the laity to the vocation of responsibility for the church s life springing from the gift and mission of their baptism.
KEEP THESE CHILDREN WARM! Again this year, Fr. Mulcrone is collecting warm clothes for children who have been victims of sexual abuse. Scarves, hats, mittens, coats, warm socks, sweaters, sweats/hoodies. They have to be NEW or HOMEMADE. Boys/girls, ages 3-16. Do NOT wrap since all must be inspected. Drop off any Sunday at the Stokes Center till Dec. 10th, or during the week at the rectory. Italian Catholic Federation Invites New Members To Join For any questions regarding the ICF at St. Francis Borgia, contact Teresa Helfand at 773-763-0507 ICF Masses & Meetings: Monday, November 27th - 7:30 pm Meeting in the Stokes Center Saturday, December 16th - pm Mass in the Church RESPECT LIFE Waiting The Second Vatican Council reflects upon the relationship between the coming of Christ and our activity to prepare for it. In the Constitution on the Church in the Modern World, we read, "Far from diminishing our concern to develop this earth, the expectancy of a new earth should spur us on, for it is here that the body of a new human family grows, foreshadowing in some way the age which is to come...when we have spread on earth the fruits of our nature and our enterprise -- human dignity, brotherly communion and freedom -- according to the command of the Lord and in his Spirit, we will find them once again, cleansed this time from the stain of sin, illuminated and transfigured, when Christ presents to his Father an eternal and universal kingdom..." (#39). In other words, the spirit of Advent should naturally bolster our pro-life efforts, and the progress we make in promoting human dignity becomes the "building blocks" for the eternal kingdom. New Parishioners Are Invited to Register Adoration News The Adoration Chapel will be open on all Holidays, regular hours, 6:30 am to 11:00 pm, weather permitting. All Adorers need to sign the book at the time you were there. It is important to know if anyone visited on these days, in the past the Chapel has been closed on Holidays. Thank you for your time in prayer before Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. This is a special gift that St. Francis Borgia Parish has, reach out to a friend and invite them to experience our chapel of Peace. God's blessings always. Ojciec Święty, sługa Boży Jan Paweł II nazwał to słynne płótno wyzwaniem dla rozumu i jednym z najbardziej wstrząsających znaków pełnej cierpienia miłości Odkupiciela.
