Page Four St. William 7th & 8th GRADE NEWS BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION How s your stock portfolio performing this year? The Junior High students of St. William School are learning the basics of stock investment. Through the Big Shoulders Fund, Mr. Matt Dutro, of Deutsche Bank, has come into our classroom each month to educate the 7th and 8th graders on the stock market. Mr. Dutro presents a lesson and leads a discussion on various aspects of investing. The students are involved in a Stock Market Game where they have invested $3,000 virtual dollars to establish a stock portfolio. While they are in competition with other BSF schools to see whose portfolio will perform the best, the main goal of this program is to educate young people on the values and risks of investing. The class has researched stocks, analyzed their investments, presented investment options, and learned the value of diversification. Terms like Google Finance, PE Ratio, public options and buy low/sell high are all of a part of our investor s vocabulary. Recently Mr. Dutro challenged the 7th and 8th graders to work in small groups and, based on factual research, suggest changes to our portfolio using short presentations. The winning team was even given a few dollars of real cash as an added incentive! So if you re curious about the next good investment, perhaps you may want to consider consulting a Junior High student! WILLIAM SUMMER DAY CAMP St William Summer Day Camp is for children ages 6-14 years of age. Camp starts June 15- July 31, 6 weeks from 7am-6pm, Mondays-Fridays. Mary Klich is the Camp Director. Free t-shirts for those who sign up. The camp has trips, arts and crafts projects, lots of sports and games: soccer, capture the flag, basketball, floor hockey, volleyball, football, tumbling and more. There will be a mandatory parent meeting Saturday June 5th 2015 at 6:00pm in Liebrich Hall to answer any additional questions; or call 773-745-4205. TAKE A STAND FOR MARRIAGE On April 28, the Supreme Court will hear oral arguments for and against redefining marriage in America. Though marriage between a man and a woman has existed since the beginning and is the cornerstone of ordered society, the time-honored institution is in serious trouble. Before federal judges began to overturn marriage laws, 30 states had protected natural marriage in their Constitutions. Now the High Court is poised to decide for us all.
