The Institute has developed a network of modern teaching and research laboratories which create a strong basis for our staff to perform and fulfil research programs for the Polish industry and within the European research programs. The continuing program of expansion and development of the Institute is driven by 19 professors (including 7 tenured professors), 6 with D.Sc. degree, 33 with Ph.D. degree and 18 with M.Sc. degree. In addition, 74 Ph.D. students sponsored and guided by the professors of the Institute, participate in our research activities. In 2014, 1 researcher obtained Doctor of Science degree (D.Sc.) and 4 researcher Doctor degree (Ph.D.) Members of the Institute staff are devoted researchers. For their outstanding achievements in research and teaching, academics of the Institute in 2014 have gained 6 State Medals, 9 Ministry of National Defence Awards, 10 Rector of the Warsaw University of Technology Awards and 8 other awards. Each year, the Institute organizes the IEEE-SPIE Multi-Symposia: on Advanced Electronics and Photonics in Wilga, and on Digital Signal Processing and Radar Signal Processing in Jachranka. These scientific events are dedicated mainly to Ph.D. students and young researchers. In 2014 over 200 participants presented their papers at these Symposia

5 Professors of our Institute teach 77 different courses. Many of teaching activities are performed in our well-equipped laboratories such as Electronics for High Energy Physics Laboratory, Bioengineering Laboratory, Digital Signal Processing Laboratory, RF & Microwave Monolithic Integrated Circuits Laboratory and others. We have also a research laboratory which develops electronic measurement and control systems for free-electron laser FLASH and the European X-Ray Laser project XFEL at the Deutsches Elektronen Synchrotron DESY, Hamburg, Germany. The membership of the Institute in TESLA Technology Collaboration allows us to participate in large European and worldwide research programs on accelerator development. Recently, we also have undertaken collaboration with the European Defence Agency (EDA) for which we realize three large research projects in the field of the radar technology. I believe that students who come to our Institute are joining a dynamic, expanding and lively institution. For years our Institute has been known as a friendly place with good relations between staff and students, as well as for high standards in education and research. To add some weight to the above claim let me say how proud we are of a dynamic and successful activity of our four student research groups: Digital Signal Processing and Radar Systems Group, Electronics for High Energy Physics Group, Biocybernetics Group, and Digital and Pulse Technology Group, guided by our staff. Our achievements have not been possible if it were not for the total dedication and commitment of our academic and administration staff. I would like to take this opportunity to show my sincere appreciation and express my cordial thanks to all our staff, students and friends who identify themselves with our goals. I also hope that our achievements presented in this report will serve as a stimulus for new European and domestic industrial and research partners to initiate and exploit the Institute potential in education, research and engineering. The Director Professor Ryszard Romaniuk, Ph.D., D.Sc
