Saturday, October 22, the Catholic Office of the Deaf (Fr. Joe) will hold its annual horse race at Hawthorne Park. There are two (2) raffles. One is for a total of $18,000 guaranteed. First prize, $7,000; 2nd prize, $5,000; 12 prizes of $500. Only 700 tickets sold; $50 each. The other raffle is for prizes such as a 55" TV, a holiday weekend package, a Pebble II Smart watch, etc. Tickets are $1 each, 6 for $5. People selling these will be at the back of the church this weekend.

4 From the Pastor s Desk... In today s First Reading, we see a young Moses and priests who hold up his hands in prayer to God. We can compare the praying Moses to our Church which is constantly upheld by the efforts of all the faithful. The readings of last weekend reminded us of the need to be gracious to God and others. As such, I want to thank all of you for your generous hands of caring and support that have been extended to our St. Francis Borgia Parish. I want to thank all who participated and helped to organize our Appreciation Dinner and the 10th Anniversary of the Adoration Chapel last Saturday. I want to thank the CWC and Parish Pastoral Council for organizing another successful Rummage Sale in our Parish. We ask you to remember your beloved ones on the occasion of All Saints and All Souls Day. We will pray for all the deceased members of the Parish Family through the whole month of November. Please write the names of your beloved ones on the All Souls envelopes that are part of the package of envelopes or in the back of the church. The special Mass for the people who died from our Parish Family last year will be celebrated at the All Souls Day Mass on Wednesday, November 2nd at 6:00 pm in the Church. Rev. Richard Milek ARCHDIOCESE OF CHICAGO Statement on the Naming of Archbishop Blase J. Cupich to the College of Cardinals October 9, 2016 His Holiness, Pope Francis, announced today at the Vatican that Archbishop Blase J. Cupich is a cardinal-designate and will be among the 17 new cardinals to be created at the consistory November 19, 2016, at the Basilica of St. Peter in Vatican City. Archbishop Cupich was appointed to head the Chicago archdiocese, the nation s third largest, by Pope Francis on September 20, The news this morning that Pope Francis has named me to the College of Cardinals is both humbling and encouraging, said Blase J. Cupich, Archbishop of Chicago. I offer my best wishes to the other Cardinals -elect, especially Kevin Farrell and Joseph Tobin, and I look forward to joining with them and the other cardinals as we work together with the Holy Father for the good of the Church." When Pope Francis appointed me Archbishop of Chicago more than two years ago, the people of the archdiocese welcomed me as a friend and brother and I committed wholeheartedly to serve them, said Archbishop Cupich. The role of Cardinal brings new responsibilities, but with your prayers and help, we will continue the task we have begun of renewing the Church in the archdiocese and preparing it to thrive in the decades ahead.

5 Rosary In October The month of the Holy Rosary is October and this entire month is dedicated to the Rosary. In our parish, we will have the following devotions during the month of October. Rosary Devotion in English will be Monday thru Friday after the 7:15 am, and 8:30 am Masses, Saturday after the 8:00 am Mass, and Sunday after the 7:30 am Mass. Rosary Devotion in Polish will be Monday, Wednesday, Friday at pm in the Church and Sunday before the 9:00 am, 1:30 pm and 6:00 pm Masses. On Wednesday, October 5th there will be a Prayer for Peace and Rosary at 6:45 pm in the Chapel. GOLDEN CLUB Thursday, October 20th Doors open 11:30 am Meeting starts 1:15 pm Please bring your new or gently used items for our White Elephant Sale. The money from this sale is used for our Christmas Party Raffle. For more information, please call Connie Castello Respect Life The First Human Right Cardinal Renato Martino, when serving as President of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, said the following in an interview conducted for Priests for Life in May, 2004: "The Holy Father speaks of the protection of life as the fundamental realization and respect for human rights. Without that realization, without that respect for the right to life, no other discussion of human rights can continue; it must be based upon the foundation of human dignity and the right to life." Beginning on October 8 and 9, our church will be participating in The Baby Bottle Project benefiting The Women s Centers of Greater Chicagoland. This non-profit organization directly assists mothers and families experiencing crisis pregnancies by offering emotional, financial, material, and spiritual support through counseling, clothing & monetary provisions, prayer, and other aid. Each year the three locations together have over 5,000 appointments with expecting mothers. By God s Grace, The Women s Centers have saved over 40,000 babies and their mothers from abortion since opening in Please take a Baby Bottle home with you from the church from October 8 and 9, fill it with your spare change and return it before the weekend of October 29 and 30. This is a simple, but crucial fundraising effort for The Women s Centers. Please note the Baby Bottles cost almost $1.00 per bottle and are recycled afterward, so please return upon completion of the project. Thank you for helping defend life, and remember to keep all pro-life undertakings in your prayers. Through the Sacrament of Baptism, we have welcomed into our church community Zuzanna Gradzki Salvador Campos and Danielle Cristofano On Saturday, Ocotber 22, we will be celebrating the feast of St. John Paul II. Next Sunday we will be able to taste his favorite dessert called Kremówki (Cream Pies). Cream Pies will be available to purchase after each Mass next weekend. Kremówka is a Polish type of cream pie. It is made of two layers of puff pastry, filled with whipped cream, creamy buttercream, vanilla pastry cream (custard cream) or sometimes egg white cream, and is usually sprinkled with powdered sugar. 6 School News This Week At St. Francis Borgia School... Week of October 17, 2016 Thursday, October 20, is Spirit Wear day. Spirit Wear includes gym uniforms, SFB pajama pants, shirts and/or sweatshirts with our school name, and school athletic jerseys. Thursday, October 20, is Pizza Lunch Day - Yay! The Drama Club will meet after school on Thursday, October 20. There will be an all-school Mass in church at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, October 21. All are welcome to attend. On Friday, October 21, the three-year-old Pre-School, four-year-old Pre-Kindergarten, and Kindergarten classes will go on a field trip to Siegel s Cottonwood Farm. The Jr. Beta Club will meet after school on Friday, October 21. Friday, October 21, is the due date for the buyout fee for the mandatory fundraiser for the first semester. Borgia Café-The Bible Timeline-The Story of Salvation St. Francis Borgia Parish will be hosting the Borgia CA.F.E.-Catholic Adult Faith Education series- Wednesdays October 12, 19, 26, November 9, & 16 at p.m. in the Religious Education Center located in Schoolroom 101. We will offer The Great Adventure-A Journey Through the Bible series by Jeff Cavins. The Great Adventure Bible series explores the biblical narrative in light of Catholic teaching and the historical, cultural and literary context of the Scriptures to discover God s plan and our place within it. 7 Polish Highlanders a group with young children who are learning to dance and sing in the highlander s dialect. This group meets every Tuesday from pm 8:30 pm in the school hall. On October 30th there will be an official inauguration of this group into our parish. Also, we will welcome the Our Lady of Ludzmierz statue in our parish. Our Lady of Ludzmierz is known as the Shepherdess of all Highlanders. A copy of the statue of Our Lady of Ludzmierz will be in our parish. Our Lady of Ludzmierz is associated with Highlanders because she isknown as the Shepherdess of all Highlanders. The official Sanctuary is located on the South Side of Poland where Fr. Marek is from. The Shrine of Our Lady of Ludzmierz has had a considerably shorter traditional history than has the Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa, extending back with certainty only to the year 1234 when a church dedicated to the Blessed Mother Mary was built in the town of Ludzmierz. The church housed a wooden statue of Mary holding the infant Jesus, and by the year 1400 the Ludzmierz church had become an important shrine for the veneration of this statue. The shrine is associated with healing waters in nearby springs and has attracted a multitude of pilgrims from nearby Podhale and around the world. There is a special relationship between Saint John Paul II and the Shrine of Our Lady of Ludzmierz that undoubtedly began in earnest on August 15, At that time, Pope John XXIII installed Our Lady of Ludzmierz as Queen of Podhale (Queen of Mountains), adorning her with a golden crown. When the crowning ceremony had been completed, four of the attending bishops, Cardinal Wyszynski including Bishop Karol Wojtyla, carried the venerable statue back into the church. During this transport, the statue slipped, and the sceptre that had been in the hand of the statue fell loose. Bishop Wojtyla was able to catch the sceptre safely before it touched the ground. This event was said by many to have been a sign from the Blessed Mother Mary that she had given her sceptre to Bishop Wojtyla, indicating that he would be given authority over the Church one day as Pope. On June 8, 1979, Saint John Paul II made an official visit to Poland, but did not visit the Shrine of Our Lady of Ludzmierz. Instead, the venerable statue from that shrine was brought to the airport in Nowy Targ, where about one million people gathered to witness the visit of 'the Polish Pope,' much to the chagrin of the Communist Polish government that had tried to separate the people from the roots of their Christian faith. Almost twenty years later, on June 7, 1997, his Blessed Holiness made an Apostolic visit to the Shrine of Our Lady of Ludzmierz as a pilgrimage and to witness the major renovations that had been made to the sanctuary. In 2001, the Ludzmierz sanctuary was elevated to the rank of 'Minor Basilica' by Saint John Paul II.

9 Z Biurka Księdza Proboszcza... Na kartach Pięcioksięgu widać, jaką ochroną cieszyły się wdowy w starożytnym Izraelu. Nie miały oparcia, dlatego potrzebowały opieki od innych. Wdowa z dzisiejszej Jezusowej przypowieści naprzykrza się sędziemu, gdyż potrzebuje obrony. Sama nie da sobie rady. I to jest sedno naszej relacji z Bogiem: sami nie damy rady. Dlatego mamy Go prosić, wołać do Niego, niekiedy krzyczeć. Bo jesteśmy jak ta wdowa aby żyć naprawdę, potrzebujemy Bożej łaski i obrony. Najpierw jednak musimy się do tej potrzeby przyznać. Stanięcie w prawdzie o naszej kruchości i niesamowystarczalności otwiera drogę ku odnowie całego naszego życia. Tydzień temu przeżywaliśmy Święto naszego Patrona Św. Franciszka Borgia, dla którego najważniejsze w życiu były rodzina, wiara i kościół. Zbliża się Dzień Wszystkich Świętych i Wszystkich Zmarłych. Pamiętajmy o naszych bliskich zmarłych poprzez Msze Św. w ich intencji i poprzez wypominki. Święto Wszystkich Świętych przypada w tym roku we wtorek, a Dzień Zaduszny w środę. Msze Św. w j. polskim w tych dniach będą odprawione o godz: 10:30 am i 7:30 pm. W Dzień Zaduszny oraz przed każdą polską Mszą Św. w niedziele w listopadzie czytane będą wypominki. Również w środę, 2 listopada o godz. 6:00 pm będzie odprawiona Msza Św. w j. angielskim za wszystkich zmarłych, których pogrzeb odbył się w ostatnim roku w naszym kościele. Począwszy od pazdziernika prosimy wszystkich Parafian do współudziału w akcji zbierania funduszy dla Centrum Kobiet. Centrum Kobiet (The Women s Center) jest organizacją która pomaga kobietom w ciąży, będących w trudnej sytuacji finansowej. Centrum Kobiet służy radą, pomocą i modlitwą. Przeciętnie w ciągu roku, otrzymuje pomoc ponad pięć tysięcy kobiet. Pomoc ta, to niezbędne rzeczy dla młodego dziecka takie jak: mleko, pieluchy, krzesełka do samochodu, wózki itp. Codziennie odprawiana jest Msza Św. o godz. 12:00 w południe oraz odmawiany jest Rożaniec i Koronka do Miłosierdzia Bożego w intencji wszystkich kobiet będących w ciąży. Od 9 pazdziernia będzie można zabrać z Kościoła butelkę i po wypełnieniu jej drobnymi pieniążkami prosimy o zwrócenie jej do 30 pazdziernika. Bóg Zapłać za Wasze ofiary! Papieskie Kremówki W sobotę, 16 pazdziernika obchodzić będziemy wspomnienie Św. Jana Pawła II. Z tej okazji w przyszłą niedzielę po wszystkich Mszach Świętych będzie możliwość zakupienia Papieskich Kremówek, z których dochód przeznaczony będzie na nowe alby dla Ministranów. Ks. Ryszard Miłek Wypominki... Zbliża się wspomnienie wszystkich wiernych zmarłych i listopad, miesiąc poświęcony ich pamięci. W związku z tym przypominamy, że przy wyjściu z kościoła można zabrać specialne kopertki na wypominki. Prosimy czytelnie, najlepiej drukowanymi literami wypisać imona Waszych zmarłych wraz z godziną Mszy Św. na której chcecie aby były wyczytywane. Następnie prosimy o zwrócenie kopertek do specialnego koszyka przy ołtarzu. Prosimy, aby nie wrzucać kopertek na składkę niedzielną. Nabożeństwa Różańcowe Październik tradycyjnie jest miesiącem w szczególny sposób poświęconym modlitwie różańcowej. Nabożeństwa Różańcowe w języku polskim w naszej parafii odbywają się w poniedziałek, środę i piątek o godzinie wieczorem w Kościele. W niedziele rózaniec będzie odmawiany przed Mszą Świętą.
