He is the teacher, we the students; he is the master, we his servants. But what is it we are to learn? One important title for Jesus is the Lamb of God who has come to serve by taking away our sin. He serves by leading us to participate in the holiness of God. We are to do the same for others. Jesus came to understand his own calling by reading and praying the book of the prophet Isaiah, especially the four poems found there called the Servant Songs. Today we hear part of the second song in which the servant professes how he was formed as servant from the womb, not only to bring back Israel to God, but to be a light to the nations, so God s salvation may reach to the ends of the earth (Isaiah 49:6). Those who serve Jesus as disciples are to join in this work of bringing God s salvation to the world. Paul recognizes this in his greeting to the Corinthians, noting his call to be an apostle of Christ, one sent by God to the church at Corinth, which has been made holy in Christ and called to be holy. Paul is sent not only to them, but to all those everywhere who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 1:2). God s will is our holiness. By responding to the call to know Jesus as the Lamb of God, we accept the invitation to participate in this holiness and become the vehicle for inviting others to dwell there. James A. Violence, gang activity, and isolation are some of the obstacles which have to be overcome in order for the ministries of the Gospel to succeed in sharing the faith. In the Diocese of Loja, Ecuador, a three-day formation program was conducted for catechists, many of whom work in remote areas. More than 2500 catechists participated in training sessions for rural ministry, youth enrichment, and bible instruction. Many of the participants felt that the experience was informative, enriching, and forti ied their spirit as they returned to their parishes. In twenty-two countries of South America and the Caribbean, funds from the Collection for the Church in Latin America provide the assistance that individual parishes need to sustain and enrich the faith of their parishioners. Additionally, your generous support will assist in the formation of seminarians, deacons, religious sisters and brothers, and lay ministers of the Gospel. I am grateful for your support of your local parish, the Archdiocese of Chicago, and the Universal Church. May God continue to bless you and your loved ones in this New Year. Drodzy Bracia i Siostry w Chrystusie, Katolicy z krajów Ameryki Łacińskiej i Karaibów codziennie muszą stawiać czoła problemom przy okazji pielęgnowania i szerzenia swojej wiary. Przemoc, działalność gangów, czy izolacja to tylko niektóre z problemów, z którymi muszą sobie poradzić by ich działalność ewangelizacyjna w szerzeniu wiary odniosła sukces. W Diecezji Loja w Ekwadorze zostało przeprowadzone trzydniowe szkolenie formacyjne dla katechetów, spośród których wielu pracuje w odległych zakątkach kraju. Ponad 2500 katechetów wzięło udział w szkoleniach z zakresu duszpasterstwa na obszarach wiejskich, kształcenia młodzieży i ewangelizacji. Wielu uczestników uznało szkolenie za pouczające, budujące, oraz iż umocniło ich ono duchowo po powrocie do swoich para ii. W dwudziestu dwóch krajach Ameryki Południowej i Karaibów wpływy uzyskane z Kolekty na rzecz Kościoła w Ameryce Łacińskiej pomagają poszczególnym para iom w podtrzymaniu i pogłębianiu wiary miejscowych para ian. Wasza o iara w czasie tej kolekty wspomoże również formację seminarzystów, diakonów, sióstr i braci zakonnych oraz akolitów i lektorów. Jestem bardzo wdzięczny za Wasze wsparcie zarówno lokalnych para ii, archidiecezji Chicago, jak i całego Kościoła Powszechnego. Niech Bóg błogosławi Wam i Waszym bliskim w Nowym Roku. Lech is our Pastor, Confessor, Father, Brother and Friend. May this coming year bring to him all the joy and peace he has brought to us these many years, and may God grant him continued good health, continued grace, and the sustained peace his selfless life truly deserves. Is 49:1 Your baby is quite active in the womb now - although his/ her mother won't feel it for another couple of months. If the mother's womb had a window, you could watch your spiritually adopted baby squint, swallow, and move his/her tongue. The baby can make a tight ist if you touch his/her palm. Breathing movements can be observed, but until birth, the baby will breath amniotic luid. The baby obtains the oxygen his/her body needs through the umbilical cord. The baby you are praying for weighs one ounce. What a miracle! Spiritual Adoption Prayer My dear Jesus, together with Mary, mother, who took care of you so lovingly, and of St. Joseph, strong man of faith, protected you both, I pray to you for health of the unborn child, whom I have spiritually adopted. Obecnie są zamknięte i tak zostanie aż do porodu. Obecnie dziecko ma około 6.5 cm i waży około 15 gram. Pamiętajmy o przyrzeczeniu codziennej modlitwy i dziesiątku różańca w intencji tego dzieciątka i jego rodziców. Modlitwa Codzienna w Intencji Obrony Życia Dziecka Poczętego Panie Jezu, za wstawiennictwem Twojej Matki Maryi, która urodziła Cię z miłością, oraz za wstawiennictwem św. Józefa, człowieka zawierzenia, który opiekował się Tobą po urodzeniu proszę Cię w intencji tego nienarodzonego dziecka, które duchowo adoptowałe(a)m, a które znajduje się w niebezpeczeństwie zagłady. Proszę, daj rodzicom miłość i odwagę, aby swoje dziecko pozostawili przy życiu, które Ty sam mu przenaczyłeś. Amen.
