Zbigniew Domański, PCz zdomanski@imi.pcz.pl Wydział Inżynierii Mechanicznej i Informatyki PCz Instytut Matematyki Ul. Dabrowskiego73 tel.: Prof. Domanski research interests range from applied mathematics, statistical mechanics to transport phenomena in nanotechnological systems. He is (co)author of 70 publications, mostly in international peer-reviewed journals. Domanski s primary teaching area involves mathematics and mathematical physics. Since 1999 Z. Domanski is professor at the Czestochowa University of Technology. Prior to his appointment in Czestochowa, he was a senior researcher at the Institute of Theoretical Physics - University of Lausanne (Switzerland). He also worked at the Florida State University in Tallahassee (USA) and at the Institute of Metal Physics in Kiev (Ukraine). He received his PhD and Sc.D. (habilitation) in solid state physics from the Institute of Low Temperature and Structure Research Polish Academy of Sciences, Wrocław (Poland). Dr inż. 5 Prowadzący zajęcia z przedmiotu: Język angielski (English) Mgr Zofia Sobańska zsobanska@adm.pcz.czest.pl Studium Języków Obcych Ul. 69 tel Ms Zofia Sobańska is Deputy Head of the Foreign Languages Centre. She obtained her MA in English Philology at the University of Lodz. After graduation, she taught English at a number of schools, and before coming to CUT she worked as a teacher of English and ESP lecturer at the College for Foreign Languages in Czestochowa. Since 1992 she has been a senior lecturer of English at the Foreign Languages Department of CUT, where she gives classes in both General English, Business English and ESP. Her specialism is Methodology of the English Language Teaching and she is a co-author of the articles in the field. Her professional interests are focused on cultural awareness in foreign language teaching, which was reflected in her Postgraduate Thesis entitled The Use of Film Reviews for Developing Intercultural Awareness through Reading and Writing. She organizes a series of conferences which explore issues concerning the methodology of the English language teaching. She is an active member of the International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language- IATEFL-Poland. Mgr Marian Gałkowski mgalkowski@adm.pcz.czest.pl Studium Języków Obcych Ul. 69 tel Marian Gałkowski is seriously interested in the differences and similarities between English and Polish and how they can be used in the process of teaching the English language. He pays a lot of attention to describing grammar structures in a precise way, which substantially facilitates learning English in the case of adult students. Furthermore, his area of activity comprises designing and teaching courses of English aimed at satisfying the needs of particular types of learners; therefore he has attended a number of workshops and conferences, among them a British Council course English for Specific Purposes in Plymouth. In his efforts to increase students motivation to learn English, he has written a set of exercises accompanied by DVD films, their focus being the culture of the English speaking countries. In his personal life, photography is his greatest hobby. Spiritual development and gnosis also hold a deep fascination for him. 5

His fields of expertise are: modelling and simulation of machine dynamics problems and investigation of dynamic behaviour of discrete-continuous mechanical systems representing the machines and their elements. He is the author and co-author of more than 100 publications, in a large number of various national and international journals, and eight research monographs and textbook. He has promoted two PhD students. Professor s didactic activities cover lectures, classes, workshops, seminars and laboratory classes on theory of vibrations, dynamics of mechanical systems and computer aided design. He is the author of textbooks, laboratory instructions and concepts of many laboratory and didactic stands for graduate and postgraduate students at various stages of higher education. Other activities include being a supervisor of graduate and postgraduate students. For his scientific and didactic activities he has been awarded by the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education (three collective prizes) and by Rector of CUT (seven individual and seven collective prizes). Professor is a member of GAMM (International Association of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics) and PTMTS (Polish Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics). Dr inż. Dawid Cekus cekus@imipkm.pcz.pl Institute of Mechanics and Machine Design Foundations Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science Częstochowa University of Technology, 73 room 175, tel.: +48 (34) front office, tel./fax.: +48 (34) Scientific interests of Dawid Cekus are connected with modelling and dynamics research of mechanical systems (especially the truck crane and its subassemblies). He is the author and co-author of several publications from this field in national and international journals as well as two chapters of monograph. His teaching activity includes engineering drawing, geometrical and structural modelling, aiding systems of machine design and design of CAE applications. 6

At the early stages of his work for the CUT his scholarly research interests included the reliability theory of mechanical objects and the fatigue theory. Over the last twenty-five years he has been mainly concerned with the stability and vibration of mechanical systems. During that period he has published his doctoral and postdoctoral theses and many technical papers and articles. He has also been conducting research into other subject areas, such as the theoretical and experimental investigations of vibration of the divergence-pseudoflutter systems, computer aided design of mobile cranes and resonance boxes of musical instruments as well as the interaction problems between the supports of truck cranes and the ground of particular rheological properties. His work in the above areas has been published in a large number of various national and international highly reputable journals. Moreover, as an author and co-author, he has published five research monographs in the field. Professor's didactic activities cover lectures, classes, workshops, seminars and laboratory classes on mechanics, mechanics of materials, theory of vibrations, and computer aided design. He is the author of curriculum-oriented textbooks, laboratory instructions and concepts of many laboratory and didactic stands for graduate and postgraduate students at various stages of higher education. Other activities include being a supervisor who mentors postgraduate students preparing for their PhD examinations. For his scientific and didactic activities Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education has awarded him two individual and three collective prizes. He has also been awarded twelve prizes by the Rector of CUT. Dr inż. He is an author and coauthor of articles published in national and foreign journals. Besides the content represented in the publications, dr Sokół is also interested in computer modeling and simulation of machines. Dr Krzysztof Sokół teaches Mechanics, Engineering simulation packages and Technical drawings. 7

She received MSc and PhD degree at Chemistry Department of Warsaw University. In 1996, during PhD studies, she had practical scientific training at laboratory of Prof. James Cox, at Chemistry Department of Miami University of Oxford, Ohio, USA. Currently Dr Karwowska gives lectures on Chemistry, Bioindicators and Biosensors. Her scientific interests are focused on environmental chemistry, contamination of different elements of environment, especially heavy metals presence in water, soil and sewage sludge, removal and speciation of heavy metals in soil, bottom sediments and sewage sludge. She is the author and co author of academic textbook and scientific papers in polish and foreign periodicals as well as in conference proceedings. Rafał Scherer rafal.scherer@kik.pcz.pl Department of Computer Engineering Czestochowa University of Technology Armii Krajowej 36, tel.: +48 (34) Rafał Scherer is with the Department of Computer Engineering at Częstochowa University of Technology. His research focuses on developing new methods in computational intelligence and data mining, ensembling methods in machine learning and content-based image retrieval. He authored more than 50 research papers. He was a principal investigator of the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education project Computational Intelligence Methods in Data Mining and researcher in the Polish-Singapore Research Project "Development of intelligent techniques for modeling, controlling and optimizing complex manufacturing systems". He is a senior researcher in the project "Innovative Intelligent Data Analysis and Computational Paradigms for Industry and Healthcare" ( ) from the Foundation for Polish Science TEAM Program. He is currently authoring a book on multiple classification techniques to be published in Springer. He was a reviewer for major computational intelligence journals. Rafał Scherer earned MS degree in electrical engineering at Department of Electrical Engineering and PhD degree in computer science (Methods of Classification Using Neuro-Fuzzy Systems) at the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science of Czestochowa University of Technology. He co-organizes every two years the International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Soft Computing in Zakopane ( which is one of the major events on computational intelligence. He is also a co-editor of the Journal of Artificial Intelligence and Soft Computing Research ( He is a co-coordinator of the Microsoft Dynamics Academic Alliance program at the Czestochowa University of Technology 9
