7 Prowadzący zajęcia z przedmiotu: Mikro- i makroekonomia (Micro- and Macroeconomics) Neil Reid, Ph.D. (Arizona State University) is Associate Professor of Geography and Planning and Director of the Urban Affairs Center at the University of Toledo. Dr. Reid is an economic and industrial geographer. His research focuses on the topic of local economic development. In particular, he is interested in the theory and practice of cluster-based economic development strategies (CBEDS) and the role that such strategies can play in increasing the competitiveness of businesses, industries, and regions. Cluster-based economic development is a process that emphasizes collaboration between businesses that normally compete with each other in the market place. By collaborating they are able to address large-scale, industry-wide, problems and challenges that individual businesses, due to lack of resources, are unable to address by themselves. Furthermore, the problem-solving capabilities of collaborating businesses are enhanced when academic, government, and community partners are brought to the table and engaged in the process. Since 2004 Dr. Reid (with funding provided by the United States Department of Agriculture) has been working with the northwest Ohio greenhouse industry to help them implement cluster-based solutions to their challenges facing their industry. He is co-founder of the Maumee Valley Growers Association (MVGA), a 501(c)6, that provides northwest Ohio greenhouse owners with a forum for collaboration. He has also advised the local architecture, engineering, and contractors industries as they move toward the implementation of a cluster-based approach. He has published the results of his research in a number of leading journals, including Economic Development Quarterly, Economic Development Journal, Annals of Regional Science, Letters in Spatial and Resource Sciences, and Applied Geography. Dr. Reid was recognized for his research on cluster-based economic development with two awards from the University of Toledo - Outstanding Researcher Award (2009) and the Edith Rathbun Award for Excellence in Outreach and Engagement (2010). He was also recognized for his long-term contribution to research in economic development when he received the Distinguished Service Award from The Regional Development and Planning Specialty Group of the Association of American Geographers (2009). Dr. Reid currently serves as Chair of the International Geographical Union s Commission on the Dynamics of Economic Spaces and as President of the European ProClusters Association. Dr Piotr Tomski tomskip@wp.pl Faculty of Management Division of Microeconomics, Investments and Property Częstochowa Armii Krajowej 36B tel The scientific fields of interest of Piotr Tomski, Ph.D. are modern concepts of management, joint actions of enterprises, small and medium enterprises (SME) specificity and Real Estate Market.
